Cold Weather Essentials

With temperatures dropping and the UK set for a cold and long winter ahead, we've rounded up some of our most effective materials to help beat the chill.

1. Warm Layers

Wearing layers when working in the cold is essential for comfort, safety, and flexibility. Layers help regulate body temperature, manage moisture, and provide insulation to keep you warm. A base layer wicks sweat away, a middle layer traps heat, and an outer layer protects against wind, rain, and snow. Proper layering minimises the risk of hypothermia and frostbite while allowing mobility and safeguarding against abrasions or exposure to harsh conditions.

2. EZ Street Asphalt

EZ Street asphalt has unparallelled winter workability, remaining ready-to -apply with no special treatments or preparations, even in the coldest climates. We often hear about customers heating their previous products in the footwells of vans, or worse, having to abandon jobs because the material is set solid. EZ Street allows for an instant, permanent surface repair without the need for tack coat. Simply sweep, fill and compact. EZ Street also works in the rain, sleet and snow making it the ideal choice for cold weather pothole repairs and road maintenance.

3. Insulated Tarp

Whilst an insulated tarp isn't required for EZ Street Asphalt,An insulated tarp can offer protection against the elements whilst keeping your materials at a consistent temperature. This is particularly effective for liquid products that could freeze when temperatures drop.

4. Thermal Gloves

Thermal gloves are essential for working outside as they provide warmth and protection in cold conditions, helping to maintain dexterity and prevent numbness. They are designed with insulating materials that retain body heat while allowing hands to move freely, enabling safe handling and gripping of tools and equipment. Many thermal gloves also feature water-resistant or windproof layers to shield against harsh weather, ensuring comfort and efficiency during outdoor work.

5. Effective Cleaning

Cleaning tools of asphalt residue in cold weather is crucial to maintaining their functionality and longevity. Cold temperatures cause some bitumen based materials to harden more quickly, making it tougher to remove if left on tools. Hardened residue can impair tool performance, cause damage over time, and lead to costly replacements. Regular cleaning ensures tools remain in optimal condition, prevents buildup, and saves time and effort in future use, especially during cold weather when some materials can become less pliable.
